Winchester model 1894 carbine with saddle ring removed, serial #319321. .30-30 caliber, all other features as standard on carbine. Restocked and equipped with rifle type crescent butt. The carbine is fully engraved with deep-cut scenes of lion on fallen game at left center of action. Right side of frame shows what appears to be a cougar and African plains game. The deep cut panel scenes are surrounded by ornate hand-cut scrolls. The rifle is restocked in a light colored walnut which has been relief carved in fruit vines and hand-painted. The left wrist is inlaid with hand-engraved silver initials “W.A.H.” for William A. Hoss, who engraved the gun for himself. Mr. Hoss worked for Bohlin in the 1950’s as a carver and engraver. The rifle has been reblued and nickeled at time of ornamentation. The condition is very good as refinished. Action good, markings good, bore good. Typical of this type of very fancy work, popular in the 1950’s and 60’s, and several Western saddle shops such as Bohline and Nudie’s would ornament such Winchesters. Est: $750 - $1,500
