Winchester Model 1876 lever action rifle 50 express caliber fully and finely relief factory engraved and signed by “John Ulrich” serial #33780. The rifle shows 22” matted barrel, XXXX checkered deluxe pistol gripstocks with steel butt plate and deluxe sling swivels and 5 cartridge magazine. This rifle is pictured on pg. 203 of “Winchester Engraving” by R.L. Wilson. A letter from R.L. Wilson states “one of two known factoryrelief engraved Model 1876 Winchesters and among the finest of this model known.” Also a letter from George Madis author of the Winchester book describes the rifle as “everything on this fine Winchester isoriginal.” Madis examines the rifle in depth and states in his opinion that the deluxe sling swivels are original and matching the engraving. Madis further states the engraving seen is one of a kind showinggrizzly bear on left pillaging a bull and jumping stag and doe with dog on right and further states the scenes possibly commemorate an event as they are unique to any Winchester advertisements or catalogues.
