U.S. M1D Sniper Garand with M84 Scope, T-37 Flash Hider and Leather Cheek piece
This is a solid example of a WWII M1 Garand rifle that was converted into a M1D sniper rifle after WWII. The M1D was built using standard M1 rifles and installing a special M1D Sniper barrel that was manufactured by Springfield Armory from approximately Jan 1952 to Feb 1953. This conversion was done at Springfield as well as other Army Depots. This rifle is marked on the receiver "U.S. RIFLE/CAL 30 M1/SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" over serial number 2011403 and the side of the barrel has the correct drawing number of D7312555/ MD 34 SA 11 52". The right front leg of the receiver is electric pencil marked "SA-2-65", indicating a DEPOT rebuild in 1965. The rifle has a mix of WWII and post Springfield marked parts. It has an excellent walnut stock and hand guard set with just a single "P" proof in the pistol grip area and a DOD acceptance cartouche on the left side of the stock, which is fitted with a correct leather sniper cheek piece marked "MRT/11-62". The rifle is complete with an original M84 sniper scope with the correct identification plate, serial numbered 5910 along with the correct M1D sniper mount and the rubber eye protector. The barrel is also fitted with an original T-37 flash hider. Included with the lot is a copy of "M1 Garand 1936 to 1957", Third Edition, by Poyer and Riesch.
