U.S. Irwin-Pederson Contract M1 Carbine with Presentation Grade Stock
Formed in the 1940s by the Irwin family, Michigan furniture makers, and arms designer John Pederson, Irwin-Pederson produced approximately 150,000 M1 carbines before the Ordnance Department cancelled their contract, making the Irwin-Pederson the most scarce of the M1 Carbines. Blade front and two leaf rear sights, marked "IP" and "RP" respectively, with an undated Winchester barrel, Type I band with "KV SG" swivel, flat bolt, "IP-W" push button safety, milled guard and "IP-W" magazine catch. Smooth fancy walnut pistol grip stock, with a 2-rivet handguard, low wood forearm, "P" with serifs on the grip, "IR-IP" in the sling cutout, tan canvas sling and checkered butt marked "IP-PM". A brass plate is inlaid into the left side of the stock over the trigger guard, engraved "PRESENTATION M1-CARBINE/ TO/ FROM/ DATE", with none of the spaces filled in.
