Two-piece silver belt buckle, hand engraved, S. P. Carson on both pieces. The Vance/Carson duel took place in 1827. This belt buckle was worn by Carson when he killed Dr. Vance at Saluda Gap, SC. September 12, 1827. Carson fought in the Texas War of Independence, signed the Texas Declaration of Independence, and was secretary of state in the cabinet of Texas’ first President, David Burnett.
