Colt U.S. Navy Contract Model 1911 Semi-Automatic pistol manufactured in 1912. This pistol was one of 1000 guns shipped to the Brooklyn Navy Yard on August 30, 1912. The left side of the slide is marked with the two line, two block 1897-1911 patent dates and address, with the circled Rampant Colt behind the serrations, The right side of the slide is marked "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. NAVY" and an "H" inspection mark is on the back of the slide above the firing pin. The serial number is marked on the right side of the frame ahead of the slide stop hole, which is found on these early pistols until serial number 7500. The left side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the "WGP" inspection mark of Major Walter G. Penfield is marked just above the magazine release button. The top of the frame is marked with an "H" and a "3" assemblers mark. Standard fixed sights with the early rounded rear sight, smooth trigger, checkered slide stop, thumb safety, short hammer spur, lanyard loop on the heel of the frame, unmarked two tone magazine with lanyard loop on the base and fitted with checkered walnut grips with the diamond pattern around the screws.
