Marlin model 1897 .22 caliber lever-action rifle 24” octagon barrel, full magazine, crescent butt, factory engraved and inscribed “S. F. W.” (Sarah Francine Williams) on left panel. With original bird’s-eye maple stock, pistol grip, smooth uncheckered stock, nickel plated frame and trim, serial #219584. This Marlin was the property of Little Miss Sureshot, who performed with her husband Wild Burt, in Wild West shows and shootingexhibitions. Little Miss Sureshot competed with Anne Oakley and was known to have bested her and always gave Oakley a run for her money. A copy of the affidavit of Sharon M. Potter, great granddaughter, mentions thisMarlin being the property of her great grandmother, and it was originally in the family with a presentation engraved Savage, which is the prior lot listed in this auction. The original electronic transmission mentioning the Marlin, a competition with Anne Oakley, and the Savage is included, along with copies of research folder and documentation of the originals which are sold with the preceding lot.
