English Dragoon size pepperbox marked on top of hammer “J.W.Edge Manchester” circa about 1850. The pepperbox measures 11-5/8” overall with nearly 5” barrel cluster showing 5 shots of 54 caliber smooth bore. The DApepperbox shows a nicely scroll engraved frame and mounts with finely checkered wood stock. There is a belt hook attached to left side of frame. Metal surfaces show some light to moderate pitting and erosion. Theengraving is crisp; the stocks are good to very good with slight wear to the checkering. The action is working. One of the biggest English pepperboxes we have seen. From an old N.Y. collector’s estate.Est.;$1,250-$2,500.
