This is a very fine example of a Model 1928A1 Thompson Submachine gun, as produced by the Savage Arms Corp. These Thompson SMGs were the quintessential classic submachine guns used by early FBI, Law enforcement agencies and of course the Military in the late 1920's, throughout WWII, Korea and even into Vietnam. This particular submachine gun is a very late Model 1928A1 SMG as manufactured under a US Army contract by the Savage Arms Corp. This example still retains some of the the earlier and desirable features such as 1) the short 10 1/2 inch finned barrel with Auto Ordnance cutts compensator 2) the detachable butt stock, and 3) the fully adjustable Lyman tangent rear sight with ear protectors. The front left side of the receiver is stamped with a small U.S. Ordnance Bomb proof/a circled "GEL" and "RLB" proofs of the U.S. Ordnance Inspector. Farther back it is marked "U.S. MODEL OF 1928 A1/NO. S-528169 N.A.C." (with the "S" designating Savage manufacture). The left rear is marked in the later two-line markings of "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN, / CALIBRE 45 AUTOMATIC COLT CARTRIDGE". The obverse has the two-line markings of "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION over BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, U.S.A." and farther back it has double row of eight lines of patent numbers. In front of the rear sight, it is stamped with the distinctive "Bullet" logo of the Thompson Company with "TOMMY GUN" marked to the right side. The mismatched number lower receiver/trigger housing group is numbered "NO. S-187271". The gun is complete with three 20 round stick magazines, a Seymour Products Company and one Auto Ordnance Company, a Kerr No-Buckle canvas sling and a Thompson marked 50 round drum magazines. The SMG and all accessories are all housed in a FBI type black hard case that has a red felt lining .
