Desirable Black Powder Etched Panel Colt Frontier Six Shooter Single Action Army Revolver with Facto

Estimate: $13000 - 18000
Manufactured in 1885, this is a much sought after example of an etched panel Colt Single Action Army revolver. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." address (scarce two-line address on a 5 1/2 inch barrel as they are usually single line addresses!), the left side has the etched panel "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER". This etched barrel panel marking was officially replaced by the Colt factory in the early 120,000 serial number range with the much easier to produce and larger roll stamping. The left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates and the upper left front of the trigger guard is marked "44 C.F.". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights all nickel finish and fitted with a one-piece smooth varnished walnut grip. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, nickel finish, barrel length and grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 2 to Strong-Hackett Hardware Company in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 20, 1885.
