Nuxhall incredibly pitched his first Major League game at the age of 15. Yes, you read that right. It happened in 1944, and was due to player shortages as a result of World War II. Nuxhall was already signed to a contract, and made his debut mopping up late in the game during a 13-0 loss. It didn't go well, as Joe got two outs but also gave up 5 runs on 5 walks and a pair of hits and a wild pitch. After facing 9 batters he'd ply his trade in the minors until 1952 when he was called up once again, this time at the more appropriate age of 23. He pithed until 1966 wkinning 135 games, then went on to a long career as a broadcaster. This classic 1953 Topps card grades a very strong 6 EX-NM by SGC.
